On The Second Day in China (1988)

My knowledge of China and the Chinese is rather superficial in spite of my great admiration.

The images in this series are not about my first impressions of the place, as this is an inaccessible world to me. There is no separation between myth and reality and most things seem to happen in whispers and beliefs.

The series is an attempt at understanding the symbolism of objects, their hidden relationships… to see smoke as representation of transitory pleasures and shoes as emblems of togetherness.
